Program Focus

Accountants play a vital role in any management team. In today's ever changing business environment, the best decisions can only be made with accurate, meaningful financial information. This is why accounting is often called the language of business.

The Accounting program prepares students for a role in management by providing technical training in key areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, income taxation, auditing, and fund accounting. Students have ample opportunity to practice their skills using the latest technology including Excel, QuickBooks, Peachtree, Access, and TaxWise.

Program Flexibility

This program has built in electives, allowing it to be customized to the student's individual career goals. Students can choose from a range of business courses or earn a concentration focusing on electives in a particular discipline. Concentrations include Business Management, Marketing & Sales, and Office Management. The elective courses can also be used toward a second major. In some cases, it is possible to graduate with a double major in just one additional year.

Students can graduate with the Accounting AAS degree and then continue their education with a bachelor's degree in business management. With several 2 + 2 agreements, a student can get the best of both worlds with a hands-on accounting degree and the recognition of a bachelor's degree.

The Accounting program is rigorous. Successful students must be willing to work hard to learn challenging concepts.

In the Accounting program, learning takes place through hands on application, small group case studies, field trips and structured learning exercises. Math and computer skills are required. High school business classes are helpful.
